In 1973, a small group of poets got together in the Princeton, NJ area to share their poetry. From this nucleus of poetry lovers came the long-standing U.S.1 Poets’ Cooperative. Some of the original poets are still involved in the Cooperative; others have gone on to establish fine reputations in the literary world, but continue to submit work to the journal.

U.S. 1 Worksheets, the annual journal of the Cooperative, has published 55 volumes of poetry showcasing poets from the Cooperative as well as the best work that comes to us from poets all over the States and, in the current issue, from England and the Philippines. We look for well-crafted, energetic work that says something in a way that we haven’t heard before.

The Cooperative holds weekly meetings in various homes in the area; anyone who wants to share their own work and participate in the critique process is welcome to attend. (The Cooperative also sponsors, in conjunction with the Princeton Public Library, a monthly reading series, which brings together well-established and emerging poets for a lively evening of poetry and open mic.
